Many well-known English sayings come from Shakespeare's work, and had a great influence on the English language and English literature. Most schoolchildren in the UK study Shakespeare's plays as part of their English studies. His work is known for its understanding of the way people think and feel, as well as for its beautiful language. Shakespeare also wrote poetry and worked as an actor at the Globe Theatre in London, which has been rebuilt as an exact copy of the original theatre. He married Anne Hathaway in 1582 and they had three children. He is buried at Stratford - on - Avon, and the houses where he lived can be visited there, as well as the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, where his plays are regularly performed.

Hello,

Let me introduce myself. My name is Dorothea Boerner. I am an  Exchange student from Germany.

I am studying at Kraslava Secondary School Varaviksne , in Form 10a.

I would like to analyse the  quotation” To be or not to be: that is the question’’ .

It was written in the play HAMLET,act 3,scene 1.

In this simple line  the author William Shakespeare caught  the meaning of life.  In every single moment there can happen such a lot of things, expected and unexpected, new experiences and repetition of older ones. The most time we do not have a big influence on the outcome of the situation.  And then we call it fate.

But for ourselves in that depending on situation and external facts we can make a decision in our hearts. The decision to live the life we have got. The decision to make the best of every minute and find all  of  many small pleasures.  Every moment can be full of joy,  if we allow it to be, or if we let friends help us. But if we only think  about the negative sides we will miss that.

I agree, that there is pain , hunger, distress and  sorrow in the world.  And sometimes it is really, really hard to see, where there could be something right or beautiful.  I think  Hamlet was also in such a situation, hopeless, with a lot of problems. Maybe then there is the wish to escape from the suffer. The last and the best way,  seems to be the dead.  And here we go again: it is a personal decision. You can decide to give up,  not  to fight longer.  Or you can make the step into life one more time. Not back in the old, grey, constricted walls of thoughts and mind but forwards in the world you should decide to see in a new way with different, opened eyes. With the eyes of joy.

It is everyone’s  decision. And not only one time. Every moment we have to remember  that the world is great and life is wonderful.  And if we learn this, we can live in freedom. And be. No „not being”.

For me there also were some important decisions in the last time. Actually I´m from Germany but at the moment I´m on an exchange year and I am living in Latvia. I decided to do a year abroad one and a half year ago. Then I had to choose some countries and this was not so easy. I wanted to go to Russia but I wanted a scholarship, too. And in fact Latvia had been the right decision.

The hardest thing is to decide between two things loving both a lot. Or even between two friends or between friends and family. I am happy, that I havenot had to do that yet. I hope my future spares me this kind of experiences.

It is also difficult to make a decision that could change the whole life. But sometimes you just cannot see how big the affect of the decisions will be in future.  And a really small and simple daily decision can make a lot of problems.  Every wrong decision makes some problems and requires new decisions.
